We had some great class discussions today. Here's our recap!

English 8

We went over character types today, and here's the vocabulary you need to know.

Hero: a character who is good and does the morally right thing.

Villain: a character who is bad and does the morally wrong thing.

Protagonist: main character, does NOT have to be a hero.

Antagonist: a character who opposes the main character, does NOT have to be a villain.

Flat character: a character we don't know a lot about.

Round character: a character we do know a lot about.

Static character: a character who doesn't change much throughout the story.

Dynamic character: a character who changes or grows during a story.

English 9 and 9H

We discussed the importance of culture to stories today and went over some of the reasons why people tell stories in the first place. Creation myths will not only tell us what the people of a culture believed in a religious sense but also what their values are. Remember that water, as a life-giving substance, is going to appear in a lot of our creation myths.
